Atlantic City Officer Survives Shooting, Colleagues Pack Courtroom in Support
Two Atlantic City criminals received a striking reminder of accountability when they appeared in court before a room full of uniformed officers—just days after attempting to kill one of their own.
The confrontation began when police responded to a robbery outside Caesars Casino. A shootout followed, leaving 25-year-old suspect Jerome Damon dead and Officer Jostle Vadell, 29, critically injured.
Vadell was rushed to the hospital in grave condition but has since stabilized. His wife shared an uplifting update on Facebook, saying he was off the ventilator, speaking in small words, and regaining movement—progress she credited to the “love and support” surrounding their family.
Suspects Demitrius Cross and Martel Chisolm faced court as fellow officers filled the gallery, a powerful show of solidarity. Online, supporters praised the law enforcement community’s unity and called the suspects “a menace to society.”
